This certifies that bearer John M. Wells was physically unable to return to school this morning and advised by me to wait till afternoon, or some later time when he would be fully relieved of pain and discomfort in region of heart

(Food for Thought)    With the concurrence of 2 progeny, it may be safely assumed that this note was written by the future  father-in-law of JMW,  (not JMW's handwriting), after finals week at U of D. JMW was probably visiting in Laurel until graduation day.
