Pre Supper Piano

Old piano. Lunch time, August 1951

When Dad got home from work, he would sit down and read the Daily Gate-City newspaper.  When mom signaled that supper was about ready,  (sometimes announced by an NBC type gong), we kids would head for the bathroom to wash our hands.  At this time Dad would go to the old upright piano in the dining room, sit down and begin to play some of the most fantastic music.  We would ask him where he learned to play and the only information I remember is that he claimed to play by ear in the key of G-flat.  That key uses the black keys primarily.  He would capture his audience's attention and then abruptly stop, turn around and sit at the head of the table, ready to serve the main course.
