4. Jan Geert VELD was
born on 12 Aug 1868 in the Netherlands.
He came to the USA from Holland in 1893 and changed his name to John George
Feld. His birth date is listed as 12 Aug
1873 but his headstone in Freeport, Illinois City Cemetery says 1868. He died on 9 Mar 1948 in Freeport, Stephenson,

John Feld, 79, who resided at 714 North Turner avenue died in a Freeport
hospital late yesterday, after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock, Thursday afternoon at First
Baptist church. Rev. N. A. Wiens will conduct the services and interment will
be made in City cemetery. The body will be at the Walker mortuary, West Main
street, until 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning and will then be taken to the church.
Mr. Feld was born in Holland Aug. 12, 1868, and came to the United States
in 1893. A few years later he moved to Freeport, where he had since resided.
His marriage to Miss Catherine Lameyer took place Nov. 7, 1894. The wife passed
away Sept. 23, 1935.
He is survived by the following children: Police Sgt. John Feld, Benjamin
and Robert Feld, Mrs. Grace Fye, Mrs. Anna Earnest, Mrs. Gertrude Steffen, Mrs.
Katherine Kraft, all of Freeport; George Feld, Elgin; Richard Feld, Terre Haute,
Ind. A sister resides in Holland. There are 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Feld had been employed for some years by the Stover Manufacturing &
Engine company and later by the Arcade Manufacturing company. He was a member
of First Baptist church and took an active interest in church affairs, his chief
interests being his church and his family. He was married to Catherine LAMEIJER on 7 Nov 1894.
A story told by his grandson, John Feld Jr., is that while John Jr. was traveling
to Chicago with his mother, Viola, she made a statement that "your grandmother
and grandfather were married in this area". At the time they were traveling
through Pingree Grove, Illinois in Kane county. This marriage location has not
been verified.

Catherine LAMEIJER was born on 14 Jun 1876
in Beeta, Groningen Province, Netherlands. She died on 23 Sep 1935 in Freeport,
Stephenson, Illinois.
Trijntje Lameijer arrived in New York on June 5, 1894 on permanant sojourn from
Holland leaving from the port of Antwerp, Belgium in steerage class on the
Noordland. She was listed as a 17 years old female, servant, traveling as head of
household (alone). Her destination was listed as Renville, Minnesota.

Mrs. Catherine Feld, 59, 714 South Turner Avenue, mother
of Police Officer John Feld Jr., died Monday night at St. Francis hospital.
Born in Holland June 14, 1876, she came to the United States in 1894 and
her marriage to John Feld was an event of that same year. She was a resident
of Freeport for more than forty years.
Surviving are five sons, George of Elgin and John, Richard, Benjamin and
Robert, all of Freeport; four daughters, Mrs. Grace Fye, Mrs. Anne Earnest, Mrs.
Gertrude Steffen and Mrs. Catherine Kraft, all of Freeport; ten grandchildren;
two brothers, Benjamin Lameyer of Minnesota and George Lameyer of Sciota Mills;
and a brother and sister in Holland. Three children preceded her.
She was a member of the First Baptist church. Her son John, submitted to
a blood transfusion a week ago in an attempt to save her life.

MRS. JOHN FELD
Mrs. John Feld, North Turner avenue, passed away at a local hospital last
night at 11:30 following an illness of the past year. For the past three weeks
her condition had been critical.
Mrs. Feld's maiden name was Catherine Lameyer and she was born in Beerta,
province of Groningen, Holland, June 14, 1876. She came to America in 1894 and
her marriage to John Feld took place the same year. They settled in the vicinity
of Freeport shortly after their marriage.
She is survive by her husband and nine of twelve children that were born
to this union, three dying in infancy. The children are George Feld of Elgin;
Mrs. Grace Fye, Mrs. Anne Earnest, Mrs. Gertrude Steffen, John Feld Jr, Mrs.
Kathryn Kraft, Richard, Benjamin and Robert Feld, all residing in Freeport. There
are ten grandchildren. Two brothers, Benjamin Lameyer of Minnesota, and George
Lameyer of Sciota Mills, and one brother and a sister living in Holland are members
of the immediate family.
Mrs. Feld was a member of the First Baptist church and funeral services
will be held at the church Thursday afternoon, the time to be announced later.
Rev. Irving Fox will officiate. The body will lie at the Wiese and Temple funeral
home until Thursday noon.
