It will start again in JanuaryThere were over forty families attending the Christmas Party, which everyone agreed was a great community get-together. The effort of twenty-some neighbors who carried out the planning and preparation was appreciated by all. The evening included feasting on the delicious holiday fare brought in by each attendee. While we ate, Steve busied himself to distribute the abundance of door prizes and beautiful handcrafted table decorations. Then the fun began as all enjoyed the gift exchange which included the opportunity to 'steal' another's already opened gift. This activity lead to much intrigue and merriment. Management support was absent from the party. The evening closed with an opportunity to help a flood victim in Chehalis who had lost everything, which brought out the generosity of the Golden Valley citizens.
The last Saturday of the year found activity in the
Valley that leaves a lot of unanswered questions to be bantered around by the citizens. Since the manager was conspicuous by his absence, the discussion at the main intersection downtown was one of perplexed confusion and renewed resolve. A new 'spec' home was moved into position without apparent site preparation. Note in the photos the absence of the normal pit setting that is a part of every other home in Golden Valley. Some may believe this requirement is no longer in the Rules and Regulations dated April 1, 2007. Not so... page 5, paragraph C - 3 states: "Pit Setting - All homes must be set in a manner that permits a residential foundation look..." The proposed foundation system for this home is "cost-effective" according to the manufacturer's web site but leaves this home up in the air. Watch for precast concrete skirting next. It remains to be seen if this home will survive the unstable situation it finds itself in. Golden Valley homeowners are owed some sort of explanation from the land owners. Let's see if that happens this year. In the final analysis Golden Valley's charm still lies in the homeowners' care in the upkeep and landscaping of their properties.
