January, 2012
Halfway through the month, the first significant snow of the winter began. During a break, when the sun peeked through the clouds, a walk to the river showed a dusting everywhere including here in the meadow. Walking produces a comforting 'crunch, crunch, crunch' along the snow covered path.
The rains of several weeks ago have continued the erosion of the near bank. A duck was disturbed and rapidly winged its way up stream. Further on a lone eagle flew downstream. Dislodged boulders were heard booming their way down the river.
When you stand in the middle of the footbridge, now known as 'Goat Crossing', look to the north and wonder at the five trees growing up from the broken trunk.
